My Opponent,
Jessica Farrar
Community
As your future representative, I am concerned about the many
issues that affect District 148, which include Metro Rail,
developers and builders who are not adequately
insured, crime, education, and making our district a better
place for families and children. I encourage all of the
constituents in District 148 to send me their emails and
inform me of issues that need to be resolved. See my contact
information.
Education
Even though this is a Federal issue, teachers that have
worked and paid into Social Security and then pay into the
Teacher’s Retirement System are not getting a fair shake.
Upon retirement, their social security benefits are reduced
by the amounts received from the Teacher’s Retirement
System. The state legislature should be unified as a
powerful lobbyist and request that Congress change these
rules. If teachers were allowed to collect both Social
Security and Teacher’s Retirement, which is their
money, then I believe the school systems in Texas could
attract more qualified teachers who have been business
owners and/or employees and their experience would be a
valuable asset to share with the kids in school.
Eminent Domain
We need to be very concerned about our property rights
in light of recent decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court. When
a city or a county can take your business or home by reason
of eminent domain and sell the land to a Wal-Mart in order
to raise their property tax base, we should be very
concerned. The U. S. Supreme Court stated that this is an
issue for the states and as such the Texas legislature needs
to add laws to prevent this from happening in Texas. For
more information on this issue please visit the web site for
the Institute of Justice.
General Business and Employment
The State of Texas needs to be an attractive site for
businesses and salesmen to encourage businesses to move to
Texas bringing new jobs and economic opportunities. As a
CPA, I am concerned that the new margin taxes on business
may deter businesses from relocating to Texas. I am firmly
committing to lowering taxes and making a more efficient
state government.
Immigration
There is great need to document the influx of illegal
immigrants. One way to accomplish this is to make it cheaper
and easier to immigrate to Texas with the proper
documentation. This would include the cooperation of Mexico
and the U.S. as the cost of the proper documentation is too
great for the immigrants from Mexico to pay. I believe that
the immigrants from Mexico help our economy in Texas,
especially our agricultural and housing economy. The money
that they return to Mexico helps the Mexican economy. I
believe that the tradeoff is beneficial to both sides. I
would like to share with you an
open letter from the
Independent Institute to George Bush and Congress which I
have in both English and Spanish. Our country is a nation of
immigrants.
My Opponent, Jessica Farrar
The Young Conservatives of Texas (www.yct.org)
rate all of the state legislators on a scale of 0 to 100
based upon their voting record. Jessica Farrar, in the last
legislative session, had a rating of zero (0), the lowest
conservative rating in the last legislative session. She is
the most liberal legislator in the house. Her rating for all
of her six terms in the House is 7.7 out of 100. In
the last session, she voted against reasonably controlling
property tax increases and/or rate increases. It is time for
a change in representation in our district. I need
your support.
